Configure Backups

Configuring backups for a new environment involves three steps: registering the environment with the backup account, defining the backup schedule, and confirming that a test restore succeeds.

  1. Register the new environment's database and storage identifiers with the backup account.
  2. Define a backup schedule appropriate to the environment tier — daily for production, weekly for lower environments.
  3. Trigger a test restore into a scratch environment and confirm the restored data matches expectations before considering the setup complete.

Skipping the test restore step is the most common reason a backup turns out to be unusable when it is actually needed.
